We left Ellensburg, WA on Friday at 6:30am and headed due north. Chased a cougar for awhile. We dropped down into Leavenworth for our first fuel stop. Quick in and out, not all the bikes were exactly street legal. From there, we headed straight north around Lake Chelan and up into the Okanogan Forest. Lots of gnarly single track. We went down the golden staircase in the Foggy Dew area. We had a few sprinkles that made for epic dirt conditions.
The next day, we headed north through Tonasket up to the Canadian border, just north of Oroville. This was a day of taking it easy, mostly gravel and dirt roads, some pavement. It was our scenic day - only 200 miles - pretty easy riding. Back to Conconully for the night. Our third and final day, we headed south through Okanogan through a lot of dryland wheat country and lots of wide open, fast riding this day. A couple bikes ran out of gas close to Wenatchee. Luckily, the rally bikes carried plenty of fuel. We cruised through downtown Wenatchee and headed up over Mission Ridge and back to Ellensburg. This day was around 290 miles. We covered a lot of ground. This was my first true dual sport ride. It was awesome. I hope to do more. More Pics:

The weather was perfect. The track was really fun and got a little rough toward the end but I like it that way! Ryan’s bike didn’t start on the line but he made up a lot of time. It was a fun race and we ended up third in our class.

The weather was beautiful for this time of year, cooperative and warm. The 22 mile course was as fun and challenging as ever, with a little too much dust. A new record of 106 teams participated. Our team finished 7th overall and 2nd in our class – our best showing thus far. We had a great battle for first in our class. At 6:30am, I came in on the tail of the first place team rider – that is how close it was with a little over 3 hours to the finish. We were flawless with no mechanicals and no injuries (much better than previous years). This experience is one I recommend to all. Thanks again to Rick and Marc for organizing our team and to our riders Skeeter, Kirk and Alan and our pit crew – Darcy, Danny and Mike. See you in 2009!

People who do this more than once are animals. Our team was named “Farm Boy Racing”. It truly is a bunch of farmers that I grew up with. We started out with a six-man team that quickly turned into 5 after Marc crashed out in his first out and broke his collarbone and bruised some ribs. He did soldier back to the pits on his own and we only lost a lap. We soldiered on through the night, which was another first for me. The track was great, but it was below freezing. In the morning we had a chain break and that cost us about an hour and a half. We got a couple more laps in and eventually ended up 10th in the Open Expert Class. Like I said, it was an experience. Thanks to Marc and Rick, we were pretty prepared and organized which made a big difference. And, thanks to Over the Bars Gang for putting on a great event. Everything was perfect except their radar gun. I am sure they need a new one (after my 5-minute penalty for riding too fast in pit lane). Their scoring is first class. Would I do it again? Oh yea! Good riding, good friends and friendly dirt bike competition.
